PDF upload summarization
Use this pattern when PDFs are the real source documents in your workflow and you need them turned into usable text for summarization, retrieval, or extraction.
The hard part is usually not “can the model read a PDF?” It is choosing the right ingestion, chunking, and cleanup strategy for long or messy documents.
What to focus on
- PDF ingestion and chunking strategy
- Extract-then-summarize vs summarize-in-place tradeoffs
- Handling tables, forms, and long documents
When it works well
- Important source material arrives as PDFs rather than clean text
- You need a repeatable intake step before downstream processing
- Layout artifacts such as tables or forms can change answer quality
